A Happy Accident
I came across Santa Maria Novella products by accident. Several years ago, I was staying at a family member’s home and realized I forgot to pack my lotion. A bottle of this Idrasol Cream was sitting in the bathroom and the look of the label drew me right to it. I twisted open the cap and the fragrance that emanated from the bottle literally transported me to what I imagined was a secret garden in a faraway land.
I wasn’t far off. Quite literally, the Santa Maria Novella apothecary in Florence, Italy is part of a convent that was founded in the year 1221 (800 years ago) by Dominican friars and is the oldest pharmacy in the world. The friars planted a garden after they founded the convent, where they started to create products from aromatic plants. The brand still uses those ancient methods today.
The suite of Santa Maria Novella products has since become a special family gifting ritual. I use this lotion and a few of my other favorite products to treat myself to a total self-care escape. A dollop of this Idrasol Cream invigorates the senses, and as soon as it hits my skin I inhale, exhale, relax my shoulders, and remember that true luxury is in the little moments. Self-care is just as much about finding the “micro” ways to reward yourself as it is about the grander gestures.
